Yesterday I learned that the San Mateo-Foster City School District (SMFCSD) is conducting an online survey of district residents. Its purpose is to get feedback from the community to help resolve the District’s financial shortfall following the failure last March of Measure Y.
You do not need to have children currently attending the SMFCSD to give your opinions, but you should be either a resident of the district or a district staff member as indicated in their first survey question.
This survey is part of the work of the Superintendent’s Fiscal Advisory Committee. The Committee’s webpage has a PowerPoint presentation describing the current fiscal problems and a link to the survey. The District has been holding a series of Town Hall meetings (listed on their webpage), but, since turnout to these meetings is often modest, they also decided to run the online survey.
PLEASE take the time to give them your feedback (again, you only need to be a resident or staff member to participate; you do NOT have to have children currently in the District)!
After having only 28% of eligible voters turn out in the March Measure Y election followed by an even lower 23.6% turnout for the recent November SMFCSD Board election, it is critical that we reenergize our local democracy and keep our community strong!
Thank you and Happy Holidays!
